Diego Leon

Diego is one of Peru’s top trail runners — and among the best in South America. A four-time winner of the 60 km Andes Race, he has represented Peru in international trail running competitions in Argentina and continues to compete at an elite level. With deep knowledge of Cusco’s mountains, trails, and culture, Diego is both an exceptional athlete and a passionate guide.

Rene Champi

René Champi is one of South America’s most accomplished distance runners and Peru’s national half marathon record holder with a remarkable 1:02:06. A multiple South American Cross Country Champion, he has proudly represented Peru on the world stage many times, earning recognition for his talent and determination.

 

Beyond his achievements, René is known for his friendly, approachable nature and his generosity in sharing knowledge. Whether on the trails of Cusco or in a training session, he is an inspiring companion whose passion for running shines through.

 

As a coach, René combines his world-class experience with a deep understanding of training at altitude, helping athletes of all levels learn, improve, and achieve their goals. With René, you’re not just training with one of Peru’s best — you’re learning from a true master of the sport.

Julio Chacon.png

Julio Chacon

Julio is one of Peru’s fastest road and cross-country runners, with a 10 km personal best of 28:58 and a half marathon best of 1:02:36. He represented Peru at the World Cross Country Championships, finishing as the top South American, and is widely regarded as a rising star with a bright future in athletics. Extremely friendly and approachable, Julio is always happy to share his passion for running and makes a great companion on the track or trails.

Dan Rowe

Daniel is an avid runner who has spent the last 14 years exploring trails throughout the Cusco region. Growing up running cross country and 5–10 km races, he developed a lifelong passion for running — one that eventually brought him to the Andes.

Many of the routes featured in Run the Andes are trails that Dan personally mapped, tested, and refined — each one chosen not only for its challenge but for the story it tells about this remarkable region.
